Primary Purpose:

This position will support the Golden Pacific Powerlink project. As part of this project, SDG&E will build, own and operate a new 500-kV transmission line running between the existing Imperial Valley Substation and the border of San Diego and Orange Counties. According to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), this new project is essential for California to achieve its ambitious carbon reduction goals and the resilience and modernization of the electrical grid in Southern California by offering a new, critical pathway in a currently constrained area. Increasing transmission capacity across the region will help reduce unnecessary costs of congestion, integrate more clean energy, and expand access to resources in the Imperial Valley and the Southwest.

This position will be high visibility and will require someone adept with handling customer issues, the ability to research data, influence, and persuade customers, property owners, and stakeholders regarding right-of-way and construction plans and their associated impacts.

 

Leads complex land management initiatives by developing acquisition strategies, resolving title issues, and guiding permitting processes to optimize resource use and regulatory compliance.

Duties include time in the field [San Diego and Unincorporated San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Valley] and attending after-hours meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Independently negotiates complex land transactions, including acquisitions, leases, and easements.
• Develops land management strategies to optimize asset utilization and align with corporate objectives.
• Oversees due diligence for high-value acquisitions, including environmental and regulatory assessments.
• Advises leadership on market trends, valuation data, and regulatory changes impacting land assets.
• Leads cross-functional teams in resolving complex land-related issues and implementing innovative solutions.
• Establishes and maintains strategic partnerships with government agencies and industry organizations.
• Reviews and approves land-related contracts, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
• Provides subject matter expertise on land use planning, zoning, and entitlement processes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience:

• Typically requires 8 years of related experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Land Acquisition Processes – Understanding methods for acquiring land, negotiating leases, and managing property dispositions.
• Regulatory Compliance – Knowledge of land use laws, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements to ensure adherence to legal standards.
• Title and Mineral Rights Analysis – Expertise in reviewing ownership records, title documentation, and mineral rights to resolve complex issues.
• Contract Law and Risk Management – Understanding principles of contract drafting and risk mitigation in land transactions.
• Market Valuation – Knowledge of land valuation methodologies and market trends to support strategic decisions.
• Negotiation and Stakeholder Engagement – Ability to negotiate agreements and build productive relationships with external partners and agencies.
• Contract Drafting and Review – Skill in preparing and analyzing contracts and agreements for accuracy and compliance.
• Analytical Problem-Solving – Ability to evaluate complex land-related challenges and develop innovative solutions.
• Project Leadership – Ability to lead small-scale projects and coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve land management objectives.
• Effective Communication – Ability to convey complex and sensitive information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

• A valid California driver's license is required.

SDG&E offers a competitive total rewards package that goes beyond base salary. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based incentive (bonus) as well as other merit-based recognition. Company benefits include health and welfare (medical, dental, vision), employer contributions to retirement benefits, life insurance, paid time off, as well as other company offerings such as tuition reimbursement, paid parental leave, and employee assistance programs.

Pay Range $115,500.00 - $182,500.00 / year
